Outdoor Kitchens – Bring It Outside!
Most of us can relate to the pleasure of entertaining friends and family outdoors. Somehow it just feels more relaxed and fun. And who doesn’t enjoy a beautiful summer evening outdoors, not to mention the smoky aroma of meat or veggies on the grill?
No longer just a grill on the back deck, today an outdoor kitchen can be an extension of the main kitchen. It can include a sink, ample countertop space, side burners, refrigerator, beer dispenser, pizza oven, microwave, or just about any other appliance that you might want. As anyone who has designed or remodeled a kitchen knows, there are a lot of things to take into consideration. It is important to think about how you will be using the space, where you want to locate it, and how it will function. Remember to think about how family and friends will interact with both the cook and each other, and make sure the cooking space is integrated with the entertainment areas, while still allowing for the cook to move freely about the kitchen space.
Adding an outdoor kitchen is frequently part of a remodel or landscape project, in which case you are probably already working with a professional who may be able to assist in the planning and construction of your kitchen. If not, you will likely want to engage a designer and/or experienced general contractor early in the planning stages.
